Quite often i work with people who live outside of Dorset, so there is often a Skype chat or phone call as the initial conversation about wedding photography. With Carrieanne & Dan i could genuinely feel how lovely they were through the pixels of my iPad - they exude kindness and happiness and i couldn't wait to photograph their wedding at Gorwell Barn Near Abbottsbury, Dorset.
The venue itself is situated in a valley, tucked away from passers by, it's peaceful and perfect for a wedding. During the prep in one of the many cottages there, it became apparent just how in love with each other all these people were, from friends to family, it was a delight to see people fully engage with each others happiness and joy. They made me feel so welcome and comfortable in their company (and i hope i did the same to them!) - it is such a big day in peoples lives, not just the bride and grooms. I always consider the parents of the newlyweds, for this day has been years in the making. As a parent, i'm acutely aware of how fast life passes by and how much we invest in our children. To see Carrieanne's parents' reactions when they saw her dressed for her wedding was so heartwarming and moving. Little girls grow up, but they are forever a baby in their parents eyes... to some degree at least.
Dan, the origin of some major beard-envy, is as wonderful a man as you could hope to meet. Smiley, welcoming, friendly and someone who just makes you feel at ease. He also, on occasion, looks a bit like Keanu Reeves... bonus! Together they are ridiculously pretty couple inside and out. They make each other smile and the engage with each other in such a naturally beautiful way.
The ceremony was perfect - peaceful and to the point and was accompanied by a couple of readings and a delightful song written and performed by Carrieanne's sister on a Ukulele - a moving and soulful addition to the more formal proceedings of the day. As the guests enjoyed their canapés (catered by the magnificent Crabb Apple Catering - they're amazing, check them out!!) in the heat of the summer sun, we went for a bimble to get a few shots of just the two of them. Upon returning you could just see how happy everyone was. Watching this through a lens is magnificent. It reaffirms your faith in humanity and that Love is indeed the best of all of us.
Carrieanne & Dan chose a few brilliant suppliers for their wedding - from Mark at Pegasus Disco, who keeps things on track and injects some audience participation and humour into the proceedings, to Crabb Apple Catering who delivered beautiful pies and Mash... which was so much better than my poor description (the Mash could be pimped with cheese, marmite etc... i mean, come on!! How can you not love that!!??). The florist produced one of the best floral displays i have ever seen at a wedding, a huge wheel completely decorated with various grasses and flowers. Just stunning.
After the meal, everyone went back outside to enjoy the last rays of sunlight, whilst myself and the newlyweds went for a few quick photos at the top of the hill; utilising the drone to get some awesome sunset shots with the Bride and Groom in context. From then onto the first dance and then a game of 'Mr & Mrs'... the whole day was perfect.
I really hope for two things. That Carrieanne & Dan have an incredible life together, that their aspirations bear fruit and their dreams transpire into reality. Secondly, i hope the photos i've produced will be an ample reminder of this beautiful day in the summer of 2018. My love and best wishes to two bloody lovely people. xx
