Now, where do I start with Anna & Tom?
No really, where do I start?
I love these guys. Their insatiable zest for life is both tangible and contagious. They are welcoming, kind and a pleasure to spend time with. It stands to reason, then, that their family and friends should be of a similar splendour. Thats absolutely the case. The bridesmaids, groomsmen and family members are lovely people.
It was my first visit to Gorwell Barn, Near Dorchester and I've got to say just how quaint it is. Not in a twee way. Just nicely tucked away in the heart of a valley, surrounded by rolling tree-decked hills. It's a beauty. A characterful and homely venue.
Having grown up in Dorchester, Anna wanted to return to get married to Tom and enjoy the celebrations with their nearest and dearest, somewhere that meant something to her. With the ceremony held at a church in Dorchester, we made our way to the Barn, stopping to take a few shots (photos, not jaeger) in the Bluebells and across the ridge of the hill.
During the speeches I became aware of just how much the day meant to Anna's dad. I'm fully aware of the bond between a father and daughter (my ginger ninja and I are as thick as thieves... only, she's the intelligent one...) and so I always have that in mind when shooting. I am capturing the precious moments of somebodies baby boy or girl. Sounds a bit mushy, granted, but it's entirely true. All the speeches were really well delivered and suitably heckled by the guests (we all love a good heckle!).
In the evening the guests were treated to the talents of a band whom Tom had grown up watching - they really were wicked. I think a particular highlight was 'under the sea' from 'The Little Mermaid', which prompted a conga line led by the groom (something of a regular occurrence by all accounts!). I love stuff like that, people letting their hair down and fully embracing the moment.
It is always an honour to be present and to photograph such a wedding. I hope the memories serve as the warmest of reminders throughout the years to come.
Anna & Tom, It was a blast, thank you x
