Every wedding is enjoyable. It is an opportunity to photograph people on a truly happy occasion, which isn't a bad place to start is it?
However, the guests can (on a personal level) make a wedding especially enjoyable if they're a friendly, funny and amiable bunch. It has to be said that upon meeting Clare & Matt for the first time, i knew i was dealing with good people who would surely have some wonderful friends and family. I wasn't wrong. Their wedding day was quite simply, a real joy to be a part of. To be surrounded not only by shiny, happy people but also by people who clearly had a special place in their hearts for the Bride and Groom, is any wedding suppliers dream.
Clare, Matt and i had spoken about how relaxed they wanted their wedding day to be and they got it just right. They chose the right venue as the backdrop to such a celebration, Hotel Du Vin in Poole. The staff there are consistently on the ball and provide such a great service, that they should be commended.
I was to go and see the boys in the morning and then visit the girls prior to the ceremony. I love seeing the contrast in how men and women deal with the morning of a wedding. It's not unusual to find the guys pretty horizontal, 'chilling out' and watching a bit of TV to detract from the speeches that need to be made later that day. I relate to that, because it's what i did. However Matt and his groomsmen were poised and ready for their duties and gave me the sense that it mattered a great deal to all of them. A fairly quiet, concetrated period of time for ties to be tied and retied in accordance with the desired knot size, shoes polished, speeches penned and matching socks adorned.
From there the next stop was the hotel and the brides prep.
"Daz-za! Daz-za! Daz-za!" was the chant that met me upon my arrival with the bridal party, a preparation in full flow and full of fun. Whilst it's not my favourite abbreviation of my name, it really isn't that bad when its shouted at you by beautiful strangers on what was clearly going to be a fantastic occasion. I could get used to it!
Its also uplifting to arrive at a venue and see the ever lovely Caroline of Amazing Face, putting the finishing touches to an already beautiful bride. She's a very good person to have present at the wedding prep, with years of experience to hand when needed.
The ceremony (at St Mary's in Poole) was conducted with great meaning and humour in what is a lovely, light church. In the shadow of striking architecture, the vows were made and two became one.
From then on it became a fabulous blur of laughter, merriment, magic tricks, nibbles and some hilarious group photo antics.
Speeches were delivered with an equal measure of sincerity and humour, to an audience who oozed enthusiasm and joy - it really does make my job a wonderful and unique experience.
Live music was at hand to entertain the guests into the evening in the form of 'The Salvation', a talented 4-piece who played familiar hits very well and to the delight of the crowd. I'd recommend looking them up if you're seeking a great band for your wedding.
Beyond that spectacular day, i can only offer my best wishes to both Clare & Matt and wish them my heartfelt best wishes for their life ahead, together. I hope the photos offer them some precious memories in years to come!
