I often learn the most about the people i'm working with when the honesty pours out during the speeches. In the same way my brother and i admit more adolescent wrong-doings, year on year, to our mum (usually when we're half cut at Christmas), Grooms too are subject to an outpouring of truth... although at a moment when all their nearest and dearest are present.
Clearly (and quite frankly thankfully) the absolute truth is kept at bay by the best men. However, enough wrongdoing is unveiled to encourage awkward twisting in the chair by the groom, face palming, face planting, face slapping and face reddening. Astonished gasps from friends and family and even the odd expletive from elderly guests, unknowing of the volume of their voice, pierce the air in unison. It's hilarious.
I think i got off lightly at my wedding. To think what my brother could have said, it's somewhat a relief to know it's now in the pages of history. As he said, from what he could tell of the Police helicopter footage, we seemed to have a good time on the stag do.
So with all this in mind, i thought i'd compile a few shots from this year that show such reactions. The utter disbelief that Kevin has mentioned the 'Banana Incident' from the stag do in Mallorca, or their reaction to Philip telling the bride's aunt from Australia about 'That girly guy who one of the guys thought was a girl'... i could go on. There are also one or two images that capture how the honesty can relay true feelings of love. I love to see Love. I too fell fowl of a wobbly lip during the closing words of my speech - "Kate and Maisie, you... are... my....worlkfjbifuldbfliabfiuwefuih" *quick, put your glass in the air Darren and everyone will join you, thus covering the last shards of your shaky voice*
The truth is no bad thing, but i would encourage best men to pick and choose their stories carefully, because telling one story too many, or one story that involves an ongoing court case, or another that includes a Chicken, a taxi at 3am and some cling film, is only going to end in tears!!
I hope you enjoy this rogues gallery, it never fails to make me smile.
