Every so often i get a couple come to me who are getting married at a venue that's new to me. It's fantatsic as it enables me to utilise new locations and lighting in order to achieve the end result. Whilst shooting at the same venue several times has its benefits, so too does a new challenge.
Rebecca & Lauren had a good idea of how they wanted their wedding to be - relaxed, fun and full of Love - they achieved everything they set out to do, in my opinion. In choosing Studland Bay House in Dorset, they secured a location that is not only ideal for hosting such an occasion with it's beautiful house and grounds, but also a location which offers an incredible backdrop. Old Harry Rocks (a rock formation in the sea) and the beach huts of Studland Bay set the scene in which the Brides and guests alike enjoyed the company and view. It's a delight to shoot there, particularly on this day.
Similarly it's the people that are there that make the day what it is. I must say that every single person i spoke with was engaging, fun and welcoming - another day that makes this one of the best 'jobs' in the world.
Preparation was held inside the house with each Bride at opposing ends of the building, as a result the air was alive with anticipation and excitement. There were two very different approaches - with Rebecca choosing a very chilled atmosphere, a quiet space in which to reflect on what was to come. Whilst Lauren, surrounded by her family also, seemed to enjoy a more lively lead up to the nuptials.
From the house everyone moved down into the gardens where a dedicated area had been readied for the ceremony. It was beautiful. With the sun shining through the trees, everyone looking on point (a particular highlight was one gentleman's Flamingo Suit - you wore it well, sir!) and both Bride's adorning dresses of differing styles, with equally stunning results. The distant sound of the waves and the seagulls was the bed for heartfelt vows, as each line spoken was carried into the wind.
To define that day in words is difficult. The sheer volume of laughter, embracing hugs, happy tears and joy at the union of these two magnificent women was palpable, to photograph it an honour.
From some pre-dinner speeches to those performed by the brides-men and parents, people were laughing and crying in a cacophony of celebration. Renditions of classic tunes were performed by a couple of guests in the evening before the band kicked off.
Love is indeed Love and every occurrence of its manifestation should be embraced, welcomed and enjoyed. The world is a better place for it.
To Lauren & Rebecca, thankyou. Your lives are destined to be happy - enjoy the journey together. xx
